Collecting Information

Based on the goals, the classes of applicable info can be determined and analyzed.
Classic classes include :
* Facility users and schedules : Who is doing what, what quantity of people are doing each activity, and when are they doing it?
* What apparatus is necessary for activities to function correctly? What's the size of the clobber?
* What sides of the project must be projected into the future? What's the history of expansion of each aspect that needs projection?
* What are the space standards (sq. feet per individual or unit) for the functions to occur?
* What other design standards may affect architectural programming : access to light, acoustics, accessibility, campus/area design rules, significant preservation, for example. ?
* Are there licensing or policy standards for minimum area for assorted functions? What are these standards?
* What are the energy use and necessities?
* What code info may affect programming choices?
* Site research : the site is always a major side of the design problem and so should be included in the programme. Site research elements that frequently affect design include :

o Legal outline
o Zoning, design axioms, and deed limitations and needs
o Traffic (bus, vehicle, and pedestrian) concerns
o Use availability (a possibly high cost item)
o Topography
o Perspectives
o Built features o Climate (if not familiar to the designer)
o Foliage and wildlife

* Client's existing facility as a resource:-
o If the customer is taking part in the activities to be housed in the new facility, it could be possible to use info to hand. Determine if the current facility is satisfactory or outdated as a resource.
o If a floor plan do a square foot take-off of the areas for assorted functions. Identify the building potency ( the percentage of existing net-to-gross area ). This proportion is handy in creating the building potency target for the new facility.
o If the customer is a repeat builder (college districts, public library, public office building, for example), get plans and do area take-offs ; decide standard building efficiencies.
o Use the current square footages for comparison when you propose future amounts of space. Folks can relate to what they already have.
