Elements of Architectural Design

The history of architectural design truly depicts the continuous evolution of mankind. Human beings have witnessed different aspects of design all throughout the ages. Every architectural design has some or the other form of style.Architectural elements can be stated as carving minute details and component parts together to create the architectural style of buildings, houses etc.

 

There is no set guidelines for architectural design, it depends more on the outlook, creativity and innovative ideas of the architect. Interior design varies greatly from one design to another. Creation of some religious buildings might be an influence from other buildings. The arches, towers and domes embedded in an architectural design enhances the beautification of that design. One of the form of architectural design represents Synagogue which means house of prayer of jewish.

 

The largest Synagogue is located in Jerusalem,Israel and the oldest one is Samaritan Synagogue located on the island of Delos.The greatest example of architectural design is World Trade Centre constructed by intertwining seven buildings in New York city.Architectural lighting design is a branch within architectural design and architecture that is foremostly concerned with illumination of architecture including monuments, residential, hospitality, academic institution etc. Architectural lighting design concept makes the architecture more attractive, appealing and rich in style. Architectural design competition is a platform where government invites proposals from various architect and the best proposal is declared as a winner. The main aim of this competition is to motivate the architect to come up with new innovations and ideas in their design.

 

There are some design elements which are as follows:

1)Line: Lines and curves are the heart and soul of two dimensional shapes like a house’s plan. Each line has thickness, direction and length. There are various forms of lines such as zigzag, parallel,horizontal, vertical, dotted etc.
2)Balance: Balance can be conquered by perfect location of objects. It can also be achieved by balancing darker colors with light colors. Contrast colors enhances the beauty of the design.
3)Color: Warmer colors like yellow, red and orange stimulates positive energy and cooler colors like purple,blue and green gives delightful visualization of design.
4)Texture: There are two types of texture used in design like Tactile (real) texture and Implied texture.Implied texture is a texture that may look rough but it cannot be felt.
5)Form: Form is a combination of two or more shapes.
6)Value: Value is an element providing the object it’s depth.
