The evolution of architecture is the dynamics between needs and means. Needs implies shelter, security and worship and means implies available materials for building as well as attendant skills. Architecture became a craft as human culture and knowledge developed.Vernacular architecture came into existence and produced in many parts of the world.
Texts on Architecture started to be written in the reinassence period. Cannons mentioned in those texts were especially based on the religious architecture. E.g.,Vaastu shastra of ancient India, Manjusri vasthu vidya sastra of Sri Lanka, Kao Gong Ji of ancient China and Vitruvius. Architectural development took place in Asia along with different lines such as Europe Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist architecture each having different features and practices.
In the modern age architectures and engineers were separated unlike in classical or medieval period. Now architect started concentrating on aesthetics and humanist aspects. In 19th century formally training were much emphasis on beautiful drawing and not much on the contexts. Vernacular architecture started gaining popularity. It has become ornamental in the modern world.In modern times architecture is the needs of people.So, we can define architecture as an art or a science designing and building buildings, structures, objects and outdoor spaces. |
